Books

“What elevates Kristian above the many pretenders to Cornwell’s crown is the style and swagger of the prose. He is a modern skald, borrowing the old rhythms to create a brutal, absorbing tale”

PORTFOLIO

Books

It was his family history (he is half Norwegian) which inspired GILES KRISTIAN to write his first historical novels: the acclaimed and bestselling RAVEN Viking trilogy – Blood EyeSons of Thunder and Odin’s Wolves. For his next series, he drew on a long-held fascination with the English Civil War to chart the fortunes of a family divided by this brutal conflict in The Bleeding Land and Brothers’ Fury. Giles also co-wrote Wilbur Smith’s No.1 bestseller, Golden Lion. In God of Vengeance (a TIMES Book of the Year), Winter’s Fire, and Wings of the Storm, he returned to the world of the Vikings to tell the story of Sigurd and his celebrated fictional fellowship.

His latest novel, Lancelot, was a Sunday Times bestseller and the screen rights have been optioned by a prominent Hollywood producer. For his next novel, Giles is again reimagining the Arthurian legend in Camelot, due to be published in May 2020

Films

For several years Giles has collaborated on book trailers and short films with filmmaker and director Philip Stevens. Together, Giles and Philip founded World Serpent Productions, a creative partnership dedicated to scriptwriting, screenwriting and filmmaking. Their first feature film, Lapwing, written by Laura Turner and starring Hannah Douglas, is currently in post production.

Games

"Gameplay is what we do. Story is why we do it." Besides writing novels, Giles works with games studios as a narrative designer, helping story and gameplay walk hand in hand from premise to production. His last narrative design work was on Valnir Rok, a multiplayer online survival role-playing game inspired by Norse mythology and created by Encurio. Currently, Giles is working on NORSE, a Viking Age strategy game being developed by Norwegian studio Arctic Hazard.

Other Projects

Having worked in the entertainment business for many years, Giles is no stranger to television and radio. Whether he’s being interviewed about his books, taking part in panel shows on the radio, or contributing as a talking head on a television history documentary, you can keep up with Giles’ appearances here on the website.

Graphic novels

For years now I’ve thought that the Viking books would lend themselves very well to a graphic novel adaptation. What I had in mind was a dark and brutal retelling. Something which belongs within the GK canon but which is allowed to make - or break -  its own rules and be its own thing. Collaborating with artist Christian Sloan Hall we are in the process of developing this material. We haven’t yet approached a publisher, because we want to make sure we’re good and ready before we do. But please feel free to spread word of our work-in-progress.
